Killing of Thenkurissi caste: Kerala court finds relatives of woman guilty of killing her husband

A Kerala court on Friday, October 25, found the two accused guilty of inter-caste marriage in the infamous honor killing of Aneesh in 2020 at Thenkurissi in Palakkad district.

The court declared Padma Kumar and Suresh Kumar – father and uncle respectively of Aneesh's wife Haritha – guilty of murder. The verdict is scheduled for Saturday.

According to the prosecution, the motive behind this was resentment against Aneesh, who belonged to a marginalized caste, for marrying Haritha, a woman from a privileged caste. The incident occurred on December 25, 2020.

The incident

Suresh Kumar is the main accused in the case while Padma Kumar is the second accused.

Aneesh was hacked to death by Padma Kumar on December 25, 2020 at around 6.30 pm. Aneesh's brother Arun was an eyewitness to the murder.

That day the brothers were riding their bikes and stopped near a store. At that time, the accused hacked Aneesh and tried to hack Arun.

Aneesh was declared dead at a nearby hospital. Following the incident, Padma Kumar fled the scene and was later arrested near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. Suresh Kumar was also arrested.

Aneesh was killed barely three months after his marriage to Haritha. After the initial investigation itself, the police classified the murder as an honor killing.

Which led to the murder

According to a report by OnmanoramaAneesh and Haritha decided to get married after a relationship that started during school. Although the couple wanted to get married with the support of their families, Padma Kumar rejected Aneesh's proposal.

Padma Kumar had also threatened Aneesh with dire consequences if he married his daughter Haritha.

Soon after the marriage, Haritha's family, especially Padma Kumar, started threatening Aneesh. He had also once stated that the marriage would not last more than three months, which again came true after Aneesh was murdered.

Following the threats, Aneesh had also filed a complaint with the police, but the police did not respond.
