Lil Durk was arrested for murder for hire

Rapper Lil Durk was arrested in Florida on murder-for-hire charges.

The Chicago-born artist, née Durk Banks, was arrested Thursday and is currently being held in a Broward County, Florida, jail, according to arrest records viewed by USA TODAY. The 32-year-old Grammy winner is awaiting transfer to the US Marshals.

Further details about his arrest have yet to be released, but the arrest comes after five people were arrested in Chicago on murder-for-hire charges for allegedly targeting Georgia rapper Quando Rondo in retaliation for the murder of Chicago rapper King Von, according to WGN Chicago and the Chicago Sun-Times.

USA TODAY has reached out to Banks' representative for comment.

Prosecutors allege that all five people – named Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey and Asa Houston – have ties to Banks' hip-hop group Only The Family, according to Chicago affiliates cite unsealed indictment.

King Von, born Dayvon Bennett, was a member of the hip hop collective and a friend and frequent collaborator of Banks, including on the track “Crazy Story,” and Banks was on Bennett's debut studio album, “Welcome to O'Block.” ” listen .”

In December 2020, Banks released the track “The Voice” as a tribute to Bennett, who died on November 6, 2020 at the age of 26 after a shooting outside an Atlanta nightclub. According to an Atlanta police statement at the time, Bennett was shot around 3:20 a.m. during an argument between two groups of men that “escalated into gunfire.”

Banks is known for “All My Life” with J. Cole, “Broadway Girls” with Morgan Wallen and as a guest artist on Drake's “Laugh Now Cry Later.”
