Lil Durk was arrested in Florida for murder-for-hire

Lil Durk was arrested in Broward County, Florida and is currently being held without bail on murder-for-hire charges.

According to Broward Sheriff's Office records, the Chicago rapper – real name Durk Devontay Banks – is being held in the Broward County Jail on behalf of the U.S. Marshal's Office.

A representative for Banks did not immediately return calls Rolling STone's request for comment.

Banks' arrest in Florida comes after five other Chicago residents – Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey and Asa Houston – were arrested and charged with murder-for-hire and murder-for-hire conspiracy Chicago Tribune. The charges are related to the 2022 murder of Quando Rondo's cousin Lul Pab, born Saviay'a Robinson, in Los Angeles. All suspects have ties to the Chicago hip-hop group OTF.

Banks previously faced multiple charges related to a 2019 shooting, but they were dropped in 2022. In addition to attempted murder, the rapper was also charged with aggravated assault, engaging in street gang criminal activity, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The non-fatal shooting occurred on February 5, 2019, and police initially claimed that video footage showed Banks driving past the university and firing a gun (hitting the victim in the leg). A few months later, arrest warrants were issued for Banks and his then co-defendant, the late rapper King Von. After the arrest warrant was issued, Banks said on Instagram that he planned to turn himself into authority, while also releasing a song called “Turn Myself In” in which he rapped about “false accusations” and proclaimed his innocence .

Last month, Banks celebrated on social media that his record was cleared. “My background has been cleared from all cases,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “I am no longer a felon. Who would have thought? I would like to thank everyone who helped me advance my vision. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
