Get ready to turn back your clocks. Daylight saving time ends next week

In just over a week, it will be time to reset your clocks to standard time.

Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2024. Most devices these days automatically adjust to the time change, but don't forget to set traditional clocks back by one hour.

Despite recent efforts to end seasonal time changes, we will continue to turn our clocks back in November and then move them forward in March – unless the state or U.S. Congress makes a permanent change.

Oregon, Washington and California have all made multiple attempts to permanently switch to either standard time or daylight saving time – but none of the previous attempts have been successful.

Switching to year-round daylight saving time requires congressional approval — and that approval seems unlikely, despite bipartisan efforts to change the current system.

It is within the state's power to enact permanent standard time, but recent legislative proposals failed in both the Oregon and Washington legislatures.

Until one of these efforts is successful, we will continue to change our clocks twice a year.
