Pokemon leak reveals more Scarlet and upcoming content

The Pokémon leaks are slowing down, but they're not done yet. The latest Pokemon leak to emerge from the massive Game Freak data breach earlier this month involves Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. When Game Freak released Pokemon Scarlet and Violet – the ninth generation of Pokemon games – in 2022, the two Nintendo Switch games received a lukewarm response from both critics and consumers. However, this disappointing reception did not have a major negative impact on sales.

The two Pokémon games sold 10 million copies within three days, making them Nintendo's biggest launches of all time. And with a total of 25 million copies sold since then, they are the third best-selling Pokémon games of all time. The poor reception the games received may have hurt long-term sales, causing them to drop a few notches from the fastest-selling Pokémon games. Whatever the case, Game Freak and Nintendo won't mind much, as the two Pokémon games were a huge success.

As you might expect, Game Freak capitalized on the success of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet with The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, complete with two DLC releases: The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk. And it looks like Game Freak and Nintendo aren't done with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet just yet.

Ahead of Pokemon Legends: ZA and Pokemon Gen-10, it looks like Game Freak has more Pokemon Scarlet and Violet content on the way. This was not officially shared, but was discovered in Scarlet and Violet's source code, which was apparently leaked in the wake of the aforementioned data breach.

According to the hacker, Scarlet and Violet's source code was not shared because it contains an update that Game Freak has not yet released. The concern is that by sharing the source code, the update would leak and Game Freak would then cancel it. There is also concern that information about the Nintendo Switch 2 could be leaked.

Reading between the lines, this at least suggests that there's another mythical event in the works for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. And it's possible that there are many more. Meanwhile, this also seems to indicate that Game Freak and Nintendo are preparing to bring Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to the Nintendo Switch 2. If that's true, then the two could of course be related, as one would at least expect such a port to have some new content.

Unfortunately, all we have at the moment is speculation. Take this speculation and the leak it comes from with a grain of salt. It appears that Game Freak isn't finished with Scarlet and Violet yet, but there's no way to confirm this.

At the time of publication, neither Game Freak nor Nintendo have commented on this particular leak and some speculation. If this changes, we will update the story accordingly.
