Lil Durk arrested for murder-for-hire

Lil Durk was arrested last night in Florida on murder-for-hire charges.

The rapper, whose real name is Durk Banks, was arrested in Florida, while five members of hip-hop crew Only the Family were jailed in California. They were all charged in connection with the 2022 murder of fellow rapper Quando Rondo's cousin. Durk and his crew allegedly targeted Rondo's cousin in retaliation for the murder of Big Von, who was signed to Durk's label and killed in 2020 by Quando partner Lul Timm.

Durk is currently being held without bail in the Broward County Jail. Those arrested in Durk's crew include Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey and Asa Houston.

Durk, 32, is a major figurehead in Chicago's drill music scene, which has produced numerous rap stars including Chief Keef, Lil Reese and G Herbo. His last five solo albums have landed in the Top 5 on the Billboard 200, and his 2023 single “All My Life” with J. Cole reached No. 2 on the Hot 100. Earlier this year, that song won a Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance.

According to the unsealed indictment reviewed by diversityThree OTF members – Grant (aka “Cuz” or “Vonnie”), Wilson (“DeDe”) and Houston (“Boogie”) – were charged for their involvement, as were Jones (“Flacka”) and Lindsey (“Browneyez “) “), members of other Chicago gangs.

In the indictment filed Oct. 17, the government describes how someone named DB, a “high-ranking OTF member,” got into a physical altercation with TB, one of TB's associates, at an Atlanta nightclub in November 2020, pulled out a gun and killed DB. It can be assumed that DB, although not mentioned by name, is King Von, as the date on the sheet matches that of his death.

After the shooting, a person identified as “Co-conspirator 1” made it “clear in coded language” that he would pay a bounty for someone to kill TB for his role in DB's murder.

In August 2022, the defendants learned that TB was staying at a hotel in Los Angeles. All five conspirators flew to LA “to assassinate tuberculosis,” and along with “co-conspirator 2,” they allegedly used two vehicles to detect tuberculosis, resulting in the death of SR or Saviay'a Robinson.

All five of Durk's associates are charged with conspiracy and use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death. They are also accused of using, carrying and firing firearms and machine guns as well as possessing such firearms to facilitate a violent crime resulting in death.
