Pedestrian after being hit by a car in Lexington County, SCHP says

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) – A man is dead after the South Carolina Highway Patrol said he was hit by a car that fled Thursday evening.

The accident occurred along US-178 around 7:15 p.m

The victim was identified by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher as Robert W. Barrs, 74, of Pelion.

Fisher said Barrs was walking on Highway 178 when he was struck by a car traveling eastbound.

Barr was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the car accused of hitting Barr failed to stop and fled the scene.

Fisher said video surveillance showed 34 cars driving past Barrs, hitting him multiple times before someone stopped to call 911 at 7:36 p.m

The Lexington County Coroner's Office, South Carolina Highway Patrol and South Carolina Highway Patrol MAIT are investigating the accident.
