Discosure Releases Darkly Textured Track “Arachnids” and Music Video

Miles away from Disclosure released the sparkling dance-pop hit “Latch” featuring Sam Smith and the darkly textured track “Arachnids” on Friday. Disclosure, made up of brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence, also released a stripped-down music video that features fans breaking into dance while listening to the shape-shifting single.

Written and produced by Guy, he described Arachnids as “an ever-evolving creative puzzle of sound design and groove exploration” that took months to put together. A 10-minute drum machine jam served as the backbone of the single, while ethereal vocal effects and distorted synths provided additional support.

“For me, 'Arachnids' is a sort of diary entry about where my musical abilities currently stand in terms of mixing and production,” Guy wrote in a statement. “I wanted to ask myself questions like, 'How far can I expand and develop this fairly simple drum loop?' Can it almost span multiple genres? Do I need more than one chord? Can the kick be the bass line?'”

Disclosure shot the music video at London's industrial club Venue Mot, showing fans' reactions up close when they heard “Arachnids” for the first time. As the song title suggests, the video directed by Uncanny also features images of spindle-legged insects.

Disclosure brought their energetic mixes to the Portola Music Festival in San Francisco in September and flew to the III Points festival in Miami earlier this month. On September 20, the duo released the dark house track “in2minds” with Scottish DJ and producer Chris Lake, and in May “She's Gone, Dance On”, a summer anthem inspired by “Dance On”, a song by the Italian composer the year 1978, contains Ennio Morricone. For Lawrence, Arachnids reflects the evolution of his taste for electronic music.

“There was so much creative freedom and so many nerdy moments in the studio, but with the goal of keeping the foundation and groove simple and concise,” Guy wrote. “It won't be a song to sing along to, but I hope you enjoy it. I know I did.”
