New information regarding an incident near Meadowview Elementary

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – Eau Claire Police have released new information about the incident near Meadowview Elementary School.

There was a “security threat” at Meadowview Elementary School on Thursday due to an incident in a nearby neighborhood. The incident occurred in front of a residence on Kappus Drive.

The Eau Claire Communications Center received a report that a man was threatening someone with a knife and holding it to their throat. The victim fled and the suspect, Mohamed Iman, 39, barricaded himself in his home.

Both nearby schools, Meadowview Elementary and South Middle School, were “secured,” allowing classes to continue as normal, but students and staff were unable to leave the building.

The victim told officers that they had arrived at the house to pick up her partner's dog. Witnesses and the victim reported that Iman forced the victim into a vehicle while holding a knife to their throats and demanded that they take him to their partner. The victim escaped and Iman went to his house.

Officers negotiated with Iman and he surrendered peacefully two hours later. Another man left the home and both were taken into custody.

Iman was arrested for kidnapping, 1st degree reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, unlawful use of a telephone and resisting an obstructing officer.

Iman was taken to the Eau Claire County Jail and the other man was arrested but later released.
