Suspect arrested and charged in killing of man in apartments near UNC Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Police say a suspect has been arrested and charged with the murder of a man earlier this month near UNC Charlotte.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested 25-year-old Asiel Springer on Friday, October 25, for his role in the murder of 25-year-old Judge Timmons.

Springer is in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and is charged with:

  • murder
  • Robbery with a dangerous weapon

Timmons is not a student and had no connection to the university, although he was killed in a student apartment complex.

On Wednesday, October 16, CMPD visited Falling Waters Court, located in the Arcadia Student Living complex just off University City Boulevard and North Tryon Street.

Officers said they responded to an assault call and found the person upon arrival.
