Mother-of-two has been left fuming after “reckless” parking

An Australian mother has gone viral on TikTok for calling out a reckless parking violation at her local shopping center.

But what they thought was a black and white situation has become far more controversial as both sides weigh in on their dilemma.

The “reckless” act

This week on TikTok, Queensland mother-of-two Steph Arneill took to the app as @stepharneilll to share an experience she had at her local shopping center.

In the video, Steph can be seen coming out of the shops with a stroller, only to see another car parked across the line in her spot.

Since she's backed her car into the space, Steph's first concern is whether her trunk will even open.

But when that happens, her next concern is how to get her stroller in.

“I don’t know how to get my stroller in,” she says in the viral video.

“Maneuver somehow?”

Steph goes on to talk about how “inconsiderate” the driver of the other car was, adding that she decided to leave a note on the car when she left.

“It's not dramatic, but what if I couldn't open my trunk?” she said.

“Don’t back in!”

Although Steph probably posted the video thinking that most people would be on her side, it quickly became clear that wasn't going to happen.

Her comments section was almost immediately flooded with people calling her dramatic and saying her problem was easily solved.

“If you have to use your boot, don't back up!” said one commenter.

“As a ute owner I see nothing wrong with the way they are parked,” said another.

“Yes, it is over the limit, but most of the parking spaces are far too small, making it more difficult for minibuses to park.”

“I mean you could just move your car,” echoed a third.

“I don’t feel like it’s that big of a deal, it’s annoying but it’s not the end of the world.”

“Have you all actually missed the point?”

However, many people, especially fellow mothers, took up the comments in her defense.

“Anyone who says, 'Just move the car forward,' is the same person who would park like the red car,” one said.

“The comments about banning reverse parking are wild. “Are you all missing the point?” said another.

“The ute is parked incorrectly…regardless of how the OP parked.”

“Unless you're a mother you wouldn't understand the inconvenience and inner anger this causes,” said another.

“I can't believe how many people blame you in some way when this person is literally IN YOUR PARKING SPACE?” a fourth added.

Steph responded to a comment on the original video, clarifying that she had parked in a specific stroller spot, hoping to get the extra space she needed, but unfortunately didn't get.

“I was parked in a parking spot specifically for parents with strollers and it still happened,” she said.
