Fight fans torn over Max Holloway's 'drained' weight cut for UFC 308: 'No accomplishment at all'

Max Holloway once again looked exhausted due to his pre-UFC featherweight weight cut UFC 308 tomorrow afternoon (Saturday, October 26th, 2024). ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) from the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and fight fans don't really know what to think.

Holloway, who is looking to become the undisputed UFC featherweight champion for the second time in his career, has never had the best weight cuts. He has a larger frame for the 145-pound class, but makes weight when it matters most. That didn't change on Friday when Holloway tipped the scales at 145 pounds to make his main event title fight with UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria official (early UFC 308 weigh-in results). HERE).

There was no sign that Holloway was struggling to reach the featherweight benchmark, but fight fans were once again concerned about how the 32-year-old veteran looked on the scales. In Holloway's defense, he looked the same this time compared to his previous three weight cuts to 145 pounds. Check out the photo comparisons below (via Oscar Willis):

Still, fight fans are almost split down the middle on whether Holloway struggled to make weight for UFC 308. “Blessed” is one of the most powerful fighters in all combat sports, but the weight has already been reduced to an exhausting five in advance. A round-long fight with a durable and extremely dangerous champion like Topuria could be disastrous for the Hawaiian fighter.

Check out some of the fan reactions below and let us know what you think!

“It’s not a maximum Holloway fight week if people don’t act like they’re weight-cutting experts and act like he’s fighting.”

“I don’t like the way he looked at the weigh-in and I don’t like the way he looked at the presser. This time it looks like he had a bad cut, and that worries me when I'm up against someone who hits as hard as Ilia. Unless Max wins, I don’t want to see him at 145 after this fight.”

“I’d say he’s better looking.”

“The bottom part looks like it came out of a thriller.”

“I’m not entirely sure if he’s more worn out or if his frame has naturally increased from the move to lightweight.”

“At 145 he is no longer the same, no strength at all. I should have stayed at 155, now I’m mad.”

“He looks drained in all of this and that just shows why I think he should stay at 155. His performances have been abysmal lately at 145.”

“It's not like his cardio training will be a problem.”
