IRGC threatens Israel, says not to trust US defense system THAAD – Israel News

IRGC chief Hossein Salami made new threats to Israel on Thursday, warning the country against relying on the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system for protection, Saudi media site Al-Hadath reported.

The comment came as Iran awaited Israeli retaliation for its airstrike earlier this month.

The US military rushed the THAAD advanced missile defense system to Israel, and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin described it as “in use” on Monday.

“Don’t rely on THAAD. Every time you fire a projectile, we will fire more than you,” Salami reportedly said.

Austin declined to say whether the THAAD system was operational. However, he added: “We are able to get it up and running very quickly and we are meeting our expectations.”

True promise

Salami said the Iranian missile attack on Israel on October 1 was evidence that the THAAD system was unable to protect Israel.

This was despite the fact that the system was not in use in Israel at the time of the October attack.

“The Zionist entity is wrong, and Operation True Promise 2 has proven the failure of its defense systems. The THAAD system will fail to protect it,” he said.
