Braves pushed to sign Yankees' $20 million infielder after strong offseason

The Atlanta Braves entered the season with World Series aspirations. However, injuries and down years among their stars prevented them from reaching the Fall Classic.

The Braves could move into free agency in hopes of a strong postseason run. Christopher Kline of FanSided urged the team to sign infielder Gleyber Torres from the New York Yankees.

“Atlanta has its sights set on that very stage, the World Series, and players who show up in October generally have a spot in the Braves' lineup. With all due respect to Orlando Arcia, the Braves' shortstop has been nearly unplayable this season,” Kline wrote. “Most of the headlines in Atlanta in 2024 have been about outfield issues or pitching depth, but improving the middle infield spot opposite Ozzie Albies is a sneaky priority. A meaningful addition at shortstop or second base could completely reshape the Braves' lineup.”

Torres has the versatility to play both middle infield spots. He struggled in the regular season but was a machine in the postseason. He got on base for the Yankees' big bats and allowed them to drive him in.

“The 2024 regular season didn't go particularly well for Gleyber Torres, who seemed to strengthen his free agent appeal in real time. But in October, he turned things around, slashing .297/.400/.432 through the ALCS and setting up a run after run for the Yankees' offense from the starting position,” Kline wrote. “Torres deserves credit for his willpower in the face of intense backlash. He turned his season around and earned the respect of the fans.”

Torres is only 27 years old and is entering free agency for the first time in his career. Spotrac predicts he will sign a three-year, $20 million contract in free agency.
