Raid on Washington home leads to arrest in shooting two weeks ago

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina man is behind bars after officials said a raid on a Washington home linked him to a shooting over two weeks ago.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office said the investigation into the Oct. 9 shooting on Jimmy Lane in Washington was completed today after searching a home on Marva Drive and arresting Zyere Godley.

The 19-year-old Washington man was charged with discharging a weapon into occupied property, conspiracy and injury to personal property.

Deputies say Godley has been denied bail due to the charges and is being held in the Pitt County Jail.

However, Godley wasn't the only man arrested after the raid. Officers said they arrested 23-year-old Dominic Maurizio from the searched home on a charge of intent to sell/deliver marijuana.

Deputies say Maurizio was initially denied bail because charges were pending in an unrelated shooting in Wake County in 2022. However, this morning he was granted bail of $5,000. Deputies say he remains in the Pitt County Jail because he failed to post bail.

According to deputies, several guns, ammunition, many gun parts and 35.3 grams of marijuana were seized during their raid.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says additional charges are expected.
