Amite man accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend

AMITE, La. (WGNO) — An Amite man was arrested after allegedly shooting his pregnant girlfriend Friday.

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office officials say just before 7 a.m. on Oct. 25, officers were called to a home on Bankston Road after a woman, later identified as Aieron Thomas, was found unresponsive.

Thomas was 13 weeks pregnant. She was shot once in the chest and did not survive.

22-year-old Demarcus Womack, Thomas's live-in boyfriend, was soon identified as a suspect in the investigation.

After finding Womack, he allegedly confessed to both the shooting and attempting to hide evidence of the crime. He was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder and second-degree murder (feticide).
