Man shot dead in parking lot in downtown Plymouth

PLYMOUTH – A 41-year-old man was shot near several restaurants in downtown Plymouth Friday night. A 23-year-old man was taken into custody.

Plymouth police said they received 911 calls reporting the shooting in the public parking lot on Middle Street around 5:45 p.m. The first officer to arrive on the scene confronted the suspect and took him into custody without incident.

The victim was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth, where he was pronounced dead.

“Extremely annoying”

The fatal shooting occurred just off Main Street, where restaurants and bars were packed with people eating dinner.

“First it was the bartender who noticed the shots. She alerted the bar and then everyone immediately stepped back and looked out the window,” one man told WBZ-TV. “Everyone witnessed something that was extremely disturbing.”

SkyEye captured the crime scene from above, which revolves around two cars parked close together in the parking lot. Police are still reconstructing the moments that led to the shooting.

Nearby Speedwell Tavern posted a message on Facebook asking for “space and respect for our family during this extremely difficult time.”

The names of the victim and the man taken into custody were not released.

Police asked people to avoid the downtown Main Street area of ​​Plymouth due to the investigation. They said there was no danger to the public.
