A former St. John the Baptist Parish sheriff's deputy was arrested Friday on a single charge of using excessive force against a suspect, according to a news release.

Nicholas Bordelon was arrested after the sheriff's office completed its investigation into an incident in which Bordelon was caught on a body camera hitting a suspect multiple times with a closed fist on Oct. 12.

After viewing the footage, his appointment at the sheriff's office was terminated on Oct. 14 and the investigation was taken over by the St. John Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division, who obtained a warrant for his arrest.

The 32-year-old former deputy was booked into St. John Parish Jail but was released after posting bail. Bordelon was employed as a patrol officer in St. John from July 2022 until his dismissal.
