Authorities responded to a call just before 7 a.m. Friday reporting an unresponsive 19-year-old woman at a residence on Bankston Road in Amite.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that Thomas, who was 13 weeks pregnant, had a gunshot wound to the chest. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

During their investigation, officers quickly identified Womack, Thomas's live-in boyfriend, as a suspect.

When he was located, Womack reportedly admitted to the shooting and attempting to hide evidence of the crime. He was subsequently arrested and charged with the charges.

TPSO Sheriff Gerald Sticker commended the criminal investigation team for working quickly on the case and expressed hope that their efforts will provide some closure for Thomas' family as they begin to recover from the tragedy.
