Newark shooting incident investigated; The gunshot victim is taken to the Bergen district hospital

Newark police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred early Saturday morning around 3 a.m. in the city's West WardOfficers responded to reports of shots fired near 620 South Orange Avenue, near Gladstone Avenue, after being alerted by a ShotSpotter device.

Upon arrival, officers found bullet casings and quickly cordoned off the area to begin an investigation.

No victims were found at the crime scene.

Hospital officials at Englewood Hospital in Bergen County later notified their local authorities about a man who entered the emergency room around 3:50 a.m. suffering from a gunshot wound.It is currently unclear whether the incident is related to the Newark shooting.

The investigation continues as police work to establish possible connections.
