CAMPBELL, Calif. (AP) — A makeshift hideout in a portable toilet bowl failed to save an accused burglar from capture, California police reported.

Officers responding to a burglary reported in a warehouse spotted a 47-year-old man jumping from one of the roofs around 1:40 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, Campbell police said in a news release.

Despite orders to stop, the man ran away and officers found three backpacks containing knives and burglary tools on the roof, police said. Part of the roof was cut open.

Officers and police set up a perimeter and searched for the man, police said.

Officers found the man hiding in a nearby toilet bowl, where he was arrested without incident, police said.

He faces felony charges including burglary, resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools and possession of pepper spray, a Taser and a concealed knife/dagger, police said.

Campbell is about 50 miles southeast of San Francisco.
