Man dies after crash in west Phoenix; 1 arrested

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man has died after a crash near a busy intersection in west Phoenix Saturday morning.

Phoenix police told Arizona's Family that the accident occurred just before 6 a.m. near 59th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard, north of McDowell Road.

When officers arrived, they found a driver in one of the vehicles with serious injuries. Rescue workers performed life-saving measures, but he died at the scene. The victim has not yet been identified.

According to police, the other driver attempted to run away on foot before officers arrived. However, that driver was identified and arrested a short time later. It is unclear what specific charges he faces.

The area is expected to be closed until mid-morning. No further information was released.
