1 woman dead, 4 children injured in crash in Phoenix

PHOENIX – A woman is dead and her four children are injured after a crash in Phoenix Friday afternoon, according to Phoenix police.

On Saturday, police identified the victim as 25-year-old Kristina Lara.

Officers responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of 19th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road around 1:20 p.m. Friday.

Officers found Lara and her four children, all passengers, injured.

Lara and one of her children were taken to hospital in critical condition, where Lara later died.

According to authorities, the child is still fighting for his life in critical condition.

Her three other children were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

What happened in the fatal accident in Phoenix?

Investigators believe a 23-year-old man was driving a silver sedan at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic while heading south on 19th Avenue. The 23-year-old then accelerated through a yellow light and crashed into a black pickup truck.

A 75-year-old man was driving the black pickup truck and attempted to turn left onto Lower Buckeye, resulting in a head-on collision. The 75-year-old man remained uninjured at the scene of the accident.

According to authorities, the final decision on charging will be made once accident reconstruction is complete.
