This is the latest measure to combat the outbreak after the government ordered a nationwide lockdown. Operations will cease Birmingham Airport as police deal with an unknown incident.

Police are evacuating passengers at the scene and advising passengers not to come to the airport.

All flights are currently suspended and passengers are reportedly not allowed to leave their planes.

Birmingham Police have cited a “suspicious vehicle” as the cause of the closure.

A Birmingham Airport spokesman said: “West Midlands Police are currently dealing with an ongoing incident at the scene. “Airport operations are currently impacted and passengers should not come to the airport at this time.

“The airport’s social channels will be updated as the situation changes.

“Passengers with immediate flights this afternoon should contact their airline and check the airport website for updates.”
