The Rattlers sweep Judson and fight for the playoff spot

WEEKEND REVIEW

The Rockets felt the Rattlers' toxicity on Friday as the San Marcos volleyball team earned a huge district victory by defeating the Judson Rockets 3-0 [25-11, 2514, 25-19].

The Rattlers improve to 16-16 overall and 4-6 in district play.

San Marcos hosts the Cibolo Steele Knights, with the playoffs on the line. A Rattlers win forces a tiebreaker game for fourth place and the final playoff spot.

Since the playoffs are divided into divisions – the larger schools go to Division I and the smaller schools go to Division II – the winner of San Marcos and Steele also determines which team goes to which round of the playoffs.

The Rattlers host Cibolo Steele on Tuesday after the San Marcos Daily Record goes to press. The full match recap will be covered in Thursday's paper.

BOBCAT'S UNBEATEN STREAKS CRASHED BY ODU

Texas State's 10-game winning streak ended last Friday when the Bobcats lost 2-0 to the Old Dominion Monarchs.

Despite the loss, head coach Steve Holeman was proud of the team.

“I thought we played a really good game tonight and were in control for most of the game,” Holeman said. “Old Dominion played really well defensively and handled everything we threw at them. I was happy with our performance and we have a lot to build on in this game.”

Texas State took a total of 11 shots during the game, six of which were on goal, but the Monarchs were able to prevent the Bobcats from reaching the back of the net.

Texas State also shut out ODU in the first half, but two goals in both the 45th and 50th minutes sealed the Bobcats' fate.

The Bobcats will be back at home this Thursday in a huge showdown against the South Alabama Jaguars.

The Bobcats are one point ahead of the Jaguars in the Sun Belt West Division standings. The winner of Thursday's game will receive the division title.
