After a 30-15 loss to Georgia in Week 8, the Texas Longhorns needed a rebound.

They did so with a 27-24 victory over Vanderbilt, although it was a little too close to be satisfied.

The Commodores gained momentum early after securing an interception from Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers. Vanderbilt turned that into a touchdown moments later and had Texas on guard.

Then the Longhorns returned fire, scoring three straight touchdowns before a Commodores field goal in the final seconds made it 21-10 at halftime.

The Longhorns restored their 14-point lead with a field goal, but a Vanderbilt touchdown brought the Commodores within seven points. However, several interceptions and another field goal sealed the Longhorns' victory.

Texas' defense forced three turnovers and limited the Commodores to just 261 total yards. Quintrevion Wisner was the Longhorns' leading rusher with 79 yards on 17 carries, while DeAndre Moore was the top receiver with six catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

Ewers went 27 of 37 for 288 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Although it wasn't a perfect day, it was still an improved performance that should bode well for the rest of the season.

Fans took to social media to cheer Ewers and the Longhorns' redeeming performance.

Not an easy win… but a win is a win! Good answer from @QuinnEwers this week. Those two picks were random passes, and when the Oline blocked, Quinn played well. See you next week! @TexasFootball

The Commodores' survival was a big advantage for the Longhorns, as Vanderbilt defeated then-No. 1 Alabama earlier that month to enter the game ranked No. 25 in the nation.

Texas has four games left in the regular season, with Texas A&M currently the only ranked opponent. If the Longhorns can finish the season strong, they have a good chance of making the College Football Playoff.
