Jaire Alexander's injury could force the Packers to make a move at the NFL trade deadline

It's amazing how bad the mood is in Green Bay right now. And after a win no less!

After the Green Bay Packers' Week 8 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, most of the attention went to quarterback Jordan Love. Love suffered a groin injury sometime in the first half of Sunday's game and was substituted for Malik Willis after trying to hold on.

The good news is that the Packers don't believe this is an injury The serious, but the bad news is that it could cause him to miss an important game against the Detroit Lions in Week 9.

But as it turns out, there are even *bigger* serious injury concerns on the team right now. Cornerback Jaire Alexander appeared to be injured on the defense's very last play, and television footage showed Alexander having difficulty putting any serious weight on the leg.

According to ESPN reporter Rob Demovsky, Alexander is scheduled to have an MRI scan of his knee sometime on Monday.

Maybe this is all a precautionary measure, but don't get an MRI the next day unless there are legitimate concerns. If Alexander is going to miss a significant amount of time – or worse – the Packers have big problems in the secondary: Both Keisean Nixon and Eric Stokes have been tough this year, with Pro Football Focus ranking them 75th and 102nd ranks ( !) rated corners in football this year (out of 109 eligible).

Alexander, on the other hand, is currently ranked 14th. As a team, the Packers' overall PFF coverage grade is still pretty good, which probably reflects how great Evan Williams and Xavier McKinney have been.

It makes you wonder (or maybe not, I don't know) how active the Packers will be before next Tuesday's NFL trade deadline. Abandoning the Maxx Crosby dream to focus more on secondary help seems like the obvious path for Brian Gutekunst, but maybe he'll just give it up completely and try to make both things happen? Sometimes you just have to risk it for the cookie.

We'll have more information later this afternoon during Matt LaFleur's press conference, but it might be time to get down to trade deadline options lists.
