Michelle Obama's powerful message to male voters sparked some cries for her in the White House

Michelle Obama threw down the gauntlet to male voters in a speech Saturday, prompting some people to call on the former first lady to run for president herself.

Campaigning on behalf of Kamala Harris, the wife of former President Barack Obama told a crowd in Kalamazoo, Michigan that a second Donald Trump presidency would pose a real threat to women in the United States.

“We all know we still have a lot of work to do in this country,” Obama said. “But to anyone out there who is thinking about sitting out this election, voting for Donald Trump, or voting for a third-party candidate in protest because they are fed up. I want to warn you: your anger does not exist in a vacuum. If we don’t get this election right, your wife, your daughter, your mother, we women will become collateral damage to your anger.”

Obama pointed to Trump's stance on abortion and access to reproductive health care as evidence that American women are at risk if he wins the head-to-head presidential race on November 5.

She urged the women in the audience to make their voices heard.

“Women who advocate for what is best for us can make a difference in this election,” she said. “So in these final days, let us use our voices to make it clear to the men in our lives that we must stand not with Trump, but with us. We need them to vote for the only candidate in this race who will protect our lives. We need them to vote for Kamala Harris.”

The powerful words caused a stir on social media, with some users so excited that they thought Obama himself should be on the ballot.

“If Harris doesn’t win, Michelle Obama will have to run in 2028” wrote X user @AlwaysTTNJ.

It's not the first time Democrats have called on the former first lady to take on the highest office in the land. Before Kamala Harris entered the race to succeed President Joe Biden after his disastrous performance in the debate hurt his re-election chances, the rumor mill was churning agitated around Obama.

Certainly to the dismay of those who long for her in the White House, Obama has been explicit for years that he would never run for public office, especially the presidency.

However, her earlier reluctance served as a source of jokes on social media after her rousing speech.

“If Trump wins, let’s all collectively hold Michelle Obama accountable for prioritizing her own lack of desire to run for POTUS over stopping fascism.” wrote X user @NateBlanchett: “Because every time I hear her speak, I'm reminded that there's no way she would have won both the nomination and the general election.”
