Carjacking, shooting linked to apartment killing of woman – Twin Cities

A woman killed in a shooting in St. Paul has been identified as a 35-year-old, and police said Wednesday they have concluded that a carjacking and shooting soon after were linked to her murder.

Officers responded to shots fired in the North End just after 9 p.m. Saturday. They found Damara Alexis Stowers of St. Paul shot to death in an apartment on Sycamore Street between Jackson and Agate streets. She died at the scene of the accident.

As a sergeant responded to the shooting, someone nearby, in the 90 block of East Acker Street, flagged him down. A man was attacked and shot. According to the sergeant, police believe the murder suspect stole the man's vehicle and shot him. Mike Ernster, a police spokesman.

St. Paul Fire Department paramedics took the carjacking victim to the hospital with injuries that Ernster said were not life-threatening.

Police had not made an arrest in the case as of Wednesday morning and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Stowers' murder.

Stowers' death was the 24th homicide of the year in St. Paul. At this time last year, there had been 28 homicides in the city.
