Jazz's Taylor Hendricks suffers broken leg and sprained ankle in game against Mavericks

Utah Jazz forward Taylor Hendricks suffered a serious injury during Monday night's game against the Dallas Mavericks, suffering a fractured right fibula and a dislocated ankle. The incident occurred in the third quarter when Hendricks attempted to slow his pace while running down the field. When he slipped, his right leg was trapped underneath him, leaving the lower part of his leg twisted at an unnatural angle, a scene described by witnesses as “horrific”. The Jazz staff and medical staff immediately attended to Hendricks on the field and he was eventually transported off the field on a stretcher.

Video footage of the injury circulated online, sparking reactions from fans and viewers. Hendricks, who had scored two points with three rebounds in the 21 minutes before the incident, was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the game, which ended in a 110-102 loss for the Jazz, leaving them with a 0-3 record Jazz is in season. The team released a statement on social media confirming that more information regarding Hendricks' injury will be provided as it becomes available.

Selected with the ninth pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, the 20-year-old Hendricks joined the Jazz after a standout freshman year at the University of Central Florida, where he averaged 15.1 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game scored. He has started all three games for Utah so far this season. Just last week, the Jazz exercised Hendricks' third-year rookie option for the 2025-26 season, demonstrating their confidence in his potential. The Jazz are scheduled to play their next game against the Sacramento Kings, and updates on Hendricks' recovery timeline are expected in the coming days.
