Halloween could see record-breaking heat in NYC, with temperatures approaching 70 degrees

Trick-or-treaters may want to consider some lighter costumes this year, as temperatures in New York could reach the 70s on Halloween night.

Skies are expected to be sunny Thursday and temperatures are expected to be more than 10 degrees warmer than unusual for this time of year, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Ciemnecki.

“Some places could even break records due to their high temperatures on Thursday,” Ciemnecki said.

The high temperatures are expected to move in as part of a warm front, driving milder air from the south into the New York area.

Ciemnecki said it's not unusual weather for this time of year, but it won't last long.

“It just so happens that it gets warm on Thursday and cooler temperatures again on Friday,” he said.

This is good news for everyone running the New York Marathon on Sunday: The forecast is sunny, dry and, with high temperatures of 60 degrees, much better for sporting activities.

Next Monday and Tuesday the city could see real rain for the first time in more than a month.
