Driver pleads guilty in fatal alcohol-influenced traffic accident

CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A driver involved in a drunk driving crash that killed a teenager appeared in court Tuesday morning in Cabell County.

Joshua Wilson pleaded guilty to both counts: drunk driving causing death and drunk driving causing serious bodily injury.

The fatal accident occurred on July 4 at the intersection of U.S. Route 60 and Davis Creek Road in Barboursville.

According to the lawsuit, Wilson was driving under the influence of alcohol at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light and collided with another car.

17-year-old Braxton McComas died in the crash. He was about to enter his senior year at Cabell Midland High School. A teenage passenger in the car McComas was driving suffered serious injuries.

The courtroom was packed with McComas' family and friends Tuesday.

A preliminary examination will take place in 45 days.

Wilson is back in the custody of the Western Regional Jail.
