Largest guest group of all time in Leverkusen – The wrong 9

SV Elversberg will be visiting Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Tuesday evening and will be accompanied by the largest group of guests in the club's history. There will be more fans there than at the previous local duels in Kaiserslautern and Saarbrücken.

For the first time in SV 07 Elversberg's club history, the club will face a reigning German champion in a competitive game. The Saarlanders travel to Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Tuesday evening (6:00 p.m.). There, the current seventh-placed team in the 2nd Bundesliga will be accompanied by the largest group of guests in the club's history.

1,900 fans from Elversberg travel to Leverkusen

By the start of the week, 1,900 tickets had been sold for the guest block in the BayArena. Never before have Elversberger been accompanied to an away game by so many fans. In the current season, the record dates from the game in Karlsruhe, where there were 1,000 Black and White fans. Last season, 1,800 fans traveled to the away game at Betzenberg in Kaiserslautern – a club record to date. Because there were never more fans at the national rivals in Saarbrücken. In the third division promotion year, 1,700 SVE fans were guests at the local duel in the Ludwigsparkstadion.

Oberhausen pushes Elversberg out of the top 60

On the last matchday, SV Elversberg slipped out of the top 60 of the Germany-wide away table. The club from the community of Spießen-Elversberg, which has a population of 13,000, is the only first and second division team not to be represented in the top 60. On average, 407 fans travel to Saarland's away games.

Leverkusen's last cup defeat in Elversberg

The party between Elversberg and Leverkusen is not a premiere. In July 2022, the two clubs met in the first round. The newly promoted third division team defeated Bayer 04 Leverkusen 4-3 at the Kaiserlinde and caused the Werskelf's last defeat in the DFB Cup to date. Horst Steffen was already on the sidelines for SVE, while Gerado Seoane was still in charge for the Werkself. A few months later, Xabi Alonso came to the Bayerkreuz.

Fourth away game in the DFB Cup

The away game in Leverkusen is only the fourth away game in Elversberger's DFB Cup history. In the first round, SVE traveled to an away game in the DFB Cup for the first time in over 40 years and celebrated the away win at VfV Hildesheim with 200 fans. In 1979 and 1981 there were already away games in Verl and Röttenbach.

SVE was the only second-round participant to never reach the DFB Cup round of 16. The party at the Werkself is the sixth second round game in the Saarland club's history.

Party in Leverkusen not sold out yet

The BayArena is not yet completely sold out for the duel with the second division team. There are currently a few remaining tickets in the Werkself shop.
