Former Tennessee corrections officer faces multiple drug charges

DYER CO., Tenn. (WMC) – A Dyer County correctional officer is facing a number of charges following an internal investigation.

Tyrell Wallace, 40, faces the following charges:

  • Bringing contraband into a penal institution
  • Possession of Schedule II Fentanyl (26 grams and sufficient fentanyl tablets)
  • Possession of Schedule II Meth (50 grams)
  • Possession of Schedule II crack cocaine (3 grams)
  • Possession of Schedule III (8 Suboxone strips)
  • Possession of Schedule VI (165 grams of marijuana)
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous crime (loaded 9mm pistol along with 40 rounds of ammunition)

Wallace is released from prison after paying $100,000 bail.

“We condemn Wallace’s actions and hold our correctional officers to the highest professional standards,” said Sheriff Jeff Box. “They are an important part of our criminal justice system by keeping violent criminals off the streets. My prison staff does a great job every day and we will not have criminals masquerading as correctional officers.”
