UFC announces two major fights, cancels another for final event of 2024

The final UFC card of 2024 isn't a pay-per-view and there may not be a title fight, but the promotion looks set to end the year with a bang.

On Tuesday, October 29, the UFC announced three fights on the December 14 card in Tampa, Florida. However, the account edited the post moments later and removed the third fight.

The first post featured the fight between Mackenzie Dern and Amanda Ribas, which would have been a decisive strawweight bout.

The edited post removed that fight and only confirmed Manel Kape vs. Bruno Silva and Vitor Petrino vs. Dustin Jacoby.

It's unclear whether fights will be the main or side event, but on paper this makes the card look strong. The graphics released by the UFC do not reflect the rankings released most recently on the day. Maybe that's why the Dern-Ribas fight was removed.

In the graph, Dern was in 12th place and Ribas was in 9th place, although they are in sixth and ninth place. It's also possible that Dern's wish to be moved to the UFC 310 card for a rematch with Virna Jandiroba came true.

Tatiana Suarez was scheduled to face Jandiroba in a fight that would have secured a title shot for the winner. However, Suarez was ruled out of the fight. It's unclear if she's injured or potentially saved for a championship opportunity against Weili Zhang at UFC 311 in January.

If that's the case, Dern could face Jandiroba and have a chance to get into the title mix at 115 pounds. Dern defeated Janridoba by unanimous decision in December 2020.

We know that No. 8 Manel Kape will face No. 13 Bruno Silva at flyweight. The fight is crucial for Kape, who has had several opportunities to advance in the division. He's either lost weight, injured or lacking weight, preventing him from getting a shot at the UFC Flyweight Championship.

Promising Brazilian batsman Vitor Petrino will also get a chance to bounce back when he faces veteran Dustin Jacoby. After rattling off 11 straight wins early in his MMA career, Petrino met a veteran with the perfect game plan for him in May when he lost in the first round to Anthony Smith.

It will be interesting to see if Petrino has worked on his cardio before this fight with Jacoby. Here's a look at the rumored fights on the UFC Tampa card, according to Tapology.

  • Amanda Ribas vs. Mackenzie Dern (115 pounds)
  • Dustin Jacoby vs. Vitor Petrino (205 pounds)
  • Tracy Cortez vs. Miranda Maverick (125 pounds)
