Former player addresses controversial video

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – A former Lynn Camp High School basketball player is defending his former coach after a controversial video was posted on social media.

The video reportedly shows Lynn Camp basketball coach Tyler Wagner using explicit language while speaking to players in a locker room.

The school district told WYMT Monday that the incident was under investigation.

Zach Thorpe, a former player who has since graduated, told WYMT the incident occurred last year and “no one was hurt.”

“Coach Wagner is a great coach,” Thorpe said. “Yeah, he yelled at us that day, but the next day we all came back to school and trained.”

Thorpe told WYMT: “Coach got me to where I am today and I’m grateful to him.”

“I understand that he probably shouldn't have insulted and yelled at us, but his words didn't hurt anyone and he motivated us to try to be successful in life,” Thorpe continued. “All the coaches shout and insult their player[s] in high school.”
