The Houston Texans escaped with a win over the rival Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, but they didn't escape unscathed as star wide receiver Stefon Diggs suffered a non-contact knee injury. The bad news got worse on Tuesday when the Texans announced that Diggs will miss the remainder of 2024 due to a torn ACL.

The news represents a major blow to Houston's offense, which is already without fellow star receiver Nico Collins, who suffered a hamstring injury in Week 4. Diggs, acquired in a trade from the Buffalo Bills in April, had five catches for 81 yards before leaving Sunday's game and finished his first Texans season with 47 receptions for 496 yards and three touchdowns in eight games.

The 30-year-old Pro Bowler was one of quarterback CJ Stroud's favorite targets during the first half of the season, especially after Collins was sidelined earlier this year. His injury also comes at a bad time in his career, considering he reworked his contract upon his arrival to become a free agent after the 2024 season. The cruciate ligament tear could mean that he has to sit out the 2025 season.

Diggs' absences add pressure on Collins once he's back in the lineup, as well as second-year starter Tank Dell. Backups Xavier Hutchinson, Robert Woods and John Metchie III could all see an increase in snaps due to the loss of Diggs. The Texans could also explore the trade market for last-minute insurance, with Carolina Panthers veteran Diontae Johnson among the most notable names available.
