Chito Vera rejects short-term fight against the top 10 bantamweight division

Marlon “Chito” Vera decided against a short-term fight against an up-and-coming competitor.

Vera is a tough guy at bantamweight, but he wants to make sure he has a proper camp before returning to the Octagon. After losing his last two fights, “Chito” can hardly be blamed for being cautious.

This is especially true if the offered opponent was Song Yadong.

Marlon Vera made an appearance on “The Ariel Helwani Show” and revealed that he had turned down a last-minute offer to fight.

“They actually called me two weeks ago at short notice [fight] and I had about four weeks to gain quite a bit of weight. I thought, you know what? I'll do it in January or February.

When asked who the opponent was, Vera had no problem revealing that it was a strong contender.

“It was Song Yadong in Vegas at the Apex, and I love it. I got five rounds to tire him out and kick his ass, but then I said, 'Okay, don't get upset again because it's so easy to get excited.' if you run 13 miles every two weeks.

Yadong is 5-2 in its last seven games. The two defeats came against Cory Sandhagen and Petr Yan. At 135 pounds, he still remains a threat.

One has to wonder if the UFC will try to rebook this game to 2025.
