Bad Bunny defends herself against racism at Donald Trump's rally in an emotional video

Rapper Bad Bunny released a video celebrating Puerto Rican culture on Tuesday after a comedian called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” at Donald Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

Bad Bunny's video was captioned “Trash,” a reference to Tony Hinchcliffe's racist comments at the rally, and included several clips of Vice President Kamala Harris speaking about supporting Puerto Ricans after the rally.

“I will never forget what Donald Trump did and didn’t do when Puerto Rico needed a caring and competent leader,” Harris says in the clip, referencing the damage the island suffered after Hurricane Maria. “He abandoned the island, tried to block aid after several devastating hurricanes, and offered nothing but paper towels and insults.”

Thousands of Puerto Ricans died during the 2017 hurricane.

A message at the beginning of the video states in Spanish that it was originally the intro to Bad Bunny's “P FKN R” concert in December 2021. The eight-minute video is a tribute to the culture, people and history of Puerto Rico.

Accompanied by inspiring music, the video highlights the history of Puerto Rico and shows iconic moments and people from the island. Notable figures in the montage include baseball legend Roberto Clemente, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and Hamilton Star Lin-Manuel Miranda.

“We are kings, champions, queens. We are legends,” says the narrator.

The video ends with clips of Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio.

“He's the best these days not only because he's Bad Bunny, but also because he's Benito. For being Puerto Rican,” the video says.
