Shooter wearing Halloween mask opens fire at Four Seasons Hotel in Midtown Atlanta

A harrowing scene unfolded at the Four Seasons in Midtown Atlanta on Tuesday after a gunman wearing a Halloween mask opened fire at the $600-a-night luxury hotel and then threw furniture – and then his gun – off a balcony after hiding in one had barricaded the room.

Police arrested the shooter around 4:30 p.m. – about two hours after the first report of a shooting.

Police later lifted a protection order but asked people to continue to avoid the area around the hotel.

FOX 5 Atlanta obtained photos of the shooter with his hands raised on a balcony.

However, he then started throwing furniture from the balcony. They also threw his pistol onto the street, police said.

The suspect appeared to be wearing a Halloween-style rubber mask shaped like an animal's face during the rampage.

It remains unclear what led to the outbreak of violence.

The average price of a room at the Four Seasons can be up to $590 per night and it is considered a major hotspot for celebrities who come to the city for the city's thriving film and television industry.
