Two teenagers are accused of killing a 14-year-old boy in Chauvin

CHAUVIN, La. (WVUE) – Two teenage suspects are in custody accused of killing a 14-year-old with whom they were stealing vehicles, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office said Tuesday (Oct. 29).

The victim was found fatally shot in a wooded area last Friday, authorities said. Neither the victim's name nor the age and identity of his alleged killers have been released by law enforcement.

“Our detectives have worked tirelessly since learning of the incident and we are committed to finding a quick resolution to this extremely tragic event,” Sheriff Tim Soignet said in a statement. “As always, we ask for privacy from the victims’ families and friends and the community’s patience as we continue to investigate this complex case.”

Family members told Fox 8 the boy who was killed was Bobby Andras.

According to the sheriff's office, the three juveniles were connected to a series of vehicle break-ins that occurred late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning.

After Andras' body was found near Alex Lane in Chauvin's Smithridge neighborhood around 12:30 a.m. Friday, the other two juvenile suspects were identified and brought in for questioning. During these interviews, Soignet said, one of the two suspects confessed to being “responsible for the victim's death.”

An older brother of Andras, who did not want his name used, told Fox 8 that his brother was “a good kid with no criminal history.”

“He was the victim of a heinous crime. These two people took his life because they feared he would tell the police about their actions. He posed no threat to anyone. There was no real reason for him to lose his life. He was a loving boy who loved being outside and living life to the fullest, and everyone who knew him loved him. We, his family, will miss him very much.”

The teenage suspects were arrested on charges of second-degree murder. It will be up to Terrebonne Parish District Attorney Joseph Waitz whether the cases will be transferred to the 32nd Judicial District Adult Court.

“We will not stop until we bring justice to the victims of this heinous act of violence,” Soignet said.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office at (985) 876-2500 or Bayou Area Crimestoppers at (800) 743-7433.
