Bad Bunny responds to comments from Puerto Rico with an encouraging video

The Puerto Rican artist shares an Instagram post celebrating icons and important historical moments on the island

Bad Bunny has an answer after comedian Tony Hinchcliffe called Puerto Rico a “garbage island” at a recent Trump rally in New York. On Tuesday, the Puerto Rican artist shared a video on his Instagram page that celebrates the history and beauty of his home island.

The video, as the text at the beginning explains, was originally an introduction to the famous Bad Bunny
“P FKN R” show in Puerto Rico in 2021. He decided to share the video for the first time since the concert, apparently to denounce the offensive remarks made at the Trump rally. “Rubbish,” he wrote in the caption, a clear reference to Hinchcliffe.

The video highlights Puerto Rican icons from all areas of culture, from politicians to astronauts to baseball legends to beauty pageant winners. “We are kings, queens and champions,” says a speaker in the video. “We are legends.”

Bad Bunny has continued to advocate for Puerto Rico throughout his career. Some of his biggest hits touched on political issues on the island; “El Apagón,” for example, celebrated Puerto Rico while describing the reality its people faced with infrastructure and power grid problems. “I was on the beach with my friends, a great, drunken party. And suddenly I watched the beach, the waves and started saying: “Diablo, Puerto Rico and the truth, Puerto Rico is a good guy. “On my next album, I want to do a song about Puerto Rico, and I want it to be beautiful,” Bad Bunny said Rolling Stone last year.
