Dropping out of school ends with Grandma's arrest for drug trafficking

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – A Kentucky woman was charged with neglect of a dependent after being pulled over by police Tuesday morning.

Officials say 63-year-old Wanda A. Hopson had just dropped off her grandchild at school when she was pulled over for driving 35 miles per hour in a school zone.

They say Hopson already had a felony warrant out for her arrest at the time, and a search of her car uncovered two pill bottles that police said tested positive for cocaine.

According to the arresting officers, the amounts of cocaine and money found in Hopson's possession were consistent with drug trafficking.

In addition to neglect, Hopson is also charged with trafficking cocaine and speeding in a school zone.

Hopson was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail without bail.
