Weather Service issues freeze warning for parts of Delaware

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, freezing weather has arrived in several mid-Atlantic states and parts of Delaware will soon be under a freeze warning.

The freeze warning for northern, central and southern Delaware is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday. Temperatures are expected to drop to as low as 30 degrees across the First State.

When to expect frost: Autumn is supposed to be frosty. How will 70 degree temperatures affect Delaware next week?

Weather officials warn that these freezing conditions could damage or kill crops and other vulnerable vegetation. Unprotected outdoor cables can also be at risk.

Residents are urged to “take action now to protect sensitive plants from the cold,” the National Weather Service said in its Sunday update.

The freeze warning follows a freeze warning for New Castle and Kent counties that predicted the likelihood of widespread below-freezing temperatures. A frost warning is triggered when low temperatures endanger plants, crops and sensitive vegetation.
