Former New York Jets coach Robert Saleh at Packers practice on Wednesday

GREEN BAY – It didn't take long for Matt LaFleur's longtime best friend to visit the practice.

Former New York Jets coach Robert Saleh was on the sidelines Wednesday afternoon as the Green Bay Packers opened their week of preparation against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Saleh and LaFleur first worked together in 2004 when both were assistants at Central Michigan. It was Saleh who launched LaFleur's NFL coaching career when he joined the Houston Texans' staff in 2008.

Off the field, LaFleur served as best man at Saleh's wedding. The two have maintained a close personal friendship for two decades.

The Jets released Saleh two weeks ago at the start of his fourth season. He coached Aaron Rodgers the past two seasons, although Rodgers missed all but four snaps in 2023 due to a torn Achilles tendon. The Jets were 20-36 during Saleh's tenure, despite the coach with a defensive background fielding top-five defenses the last two years.

It is unclear whether Saleh's appearance at Wednesday's training was a one-off visit. The Packers' defense has impressed in seven games this season under first-year coordinator Jeff Hafley.
