Kentucky man accused of killing neighbor's cat because it was a “nuisance.”

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) – A Georgetown man is accused of killing his neighbor's cat.

It happened on September 22nd on Green Lane.

According to the complaint, the cat's owners returned home that evening to find their cat lying on the grass, apparently suffering from a gunshot wound. The cat was taken to the vet but had to be euthanized.

The next day, officers visited 52-year-old Christopher Jones to speak to him about the incident.

The criminal complaint says Jones admitted to shooting the cat with a rifle. The cat was on his property and was a nuisance because it climbed onto his vehicles and left paw prints.

The complaint states that Jones told officers that he had not attempted to contact the cat's owner to make him aware of the problems and that he did not feel he had to. Jones told officers he wasn't sure who the cat belonged to and didn't contact anyone after he shot the cat.

Jones is charged with torture of a dog or cat. Following the passage of the Ethane Law in 2024, the charge is now a felony. The law defines torture of a dog or cat as a Class D felony in any case.
