Rialto driver charged with murder after traffic crash kills pedestrian – San Bernardino Sun

A 32-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder Sunday, Oct. 27, after Rialto police said she drove drunk and caused a collision that killed a pedestrian.

Laura Barajas, of Rialto, was being held without the possibility of bail at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. Supreme Court records do not show that charges had been filed against them as of Tuesday.

Rialto Police Sgt. Dan Smith said a 50-year-old man who was waiting on a sidewalk to cross the street died when Barajas' car struck him after the two-car crash. San Bernardino County Coroner's Office records show 50-year-old David M. Guerrero of Rialto was killed in a traffic accident Sunday.

The collision occurred just before 6:26 p.m

Smith said Barajas was driving a Dodge Caravan south on Riverside Avenue when she attempted to turn left onto Etiwanda Avenue. Smith said she failed to yield to oncoming traffic by turning in front of an Audi A4.

The collision caused Barajas' van to land on the sidewalk where the pedestrian was standing. The man was taken to a hospital where he died.

Barajas was treated for his injuries before being taken to prison. Smith said she was under the influence of alcohol.

The driver of the Audi was not injured, Smith said. His two-year-old son had minor cuts on his face.
