According to prosecutors, a man called 911 after allegedly killing a Climax woman and her dog

A man is now charged with murder in Kalamazoo County after police said he allegedly killed a woman and her dog.

Adam Lyons appeared before a judge Tuesday after being arrested Saturday at a home in Climax.

He is charged with murder, killing an animal and two weapons offenses. If convicted on all four counts, he could spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Probable cause documents show Lyons called police from North Main Street Saturday night and said he had shot someone and was going to kill himself.

In that call, he also allegedly made threats against law enforcement.

According to authorities, officers found Nichole Doerschler inside the home with a gunshot wound to the head and discovered that a Cane Corso dog had also been shot in the head.

The documents show two firearms were found in Lyons' home, along with several others in the home.

“In incidents like this, we see family relationships that ultimately ended in the murder of one person by another,” said Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting. “Unfortunately, this is an all-too-common occurrence in our community and across the state and country.”

A motive is not yet known in the case, and senior prosecutor Jeffrey Williams said he was unaware of Doerschler's protective order against Lyons.

Judge Alisa Parker-LaGrone denied Lyons bail during his arraignment.

Lyons is scheduled to appear in court again for his probable cause hearing on November 7.
