Omaha man arrested after Memorial Day chase, standoff changes plea

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The man arrested after a chase and hostage situation in Omaha on Memorial Day changed his plea Wednesday.

Davonta Henderson, 32, pleaded no contest to one count of operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and one count of resisting arrest. As part of the plea agreement, two counts of intentional child abuse without injury were dropped.

Henderson fled a traffic stop at 90th and Lake streets just before 9 p.m. on May 27, and police tracked him to an apartment near 104th Plaza and Hamilton Street.

According to court documents, Henderson ran into the apartment and a woman ran out. She told police there were two children, ages 3 and 7, inside. Henderson refused to leave or let the children go, so a SWAT team entered the apartment to take him into custody, which he refused. No one was injured in the incident.

Henderson is scheduled to be sentenced on December 16.
