Erik Metzig will be sentenced on Wednesday for the murder of his parents

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) – A man who pleaded no contest to charges of murdering his parents is scheduled to have his sentencing hearing Wednesday in a Winnebago County court.

Erik Metzig's defense withdrew his pleas of not guilty and insanity in August. The state recommended that each sentence be served 50 years concurrently.

As we reported, David and Jan Metzig, owners of the Union Star Cheese Factory, were found dead from gunshot wounds in their Wolf River home in 2023.

The couple had five sons and grandchildren during their 49-year marriage.

The criminal complaint states that investigators found a diary in Erik Metzig's room that detailed plans to “eliminate” his parents.

The sentencing hearing begins at 1 p.m
